Avui fa seixanta anys del primer bug informàtic del que es té constància.
Moth found trapped between points at Relay # 70, Panel F, of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator while it was being tested at Harvard University, 9 September 1945. The operators affixed the moth to the computer log, with the entry: "First actual case of bug being found". They put out the word that they had "debugged" the machine, thus introducing the term "debugging a computer program".
In 1988, the log, with the moth still taped by the entry, was in the Naval Surface Warfare Center Computer Museum at Dahlgren, Virginia.

The researchers initially focused on identifying all the variations -- or mutations -- of microcephalin and ASPM genes present among the participants. They then honed in on one particular class of each of the two genes that appeared more abundant and genetically younger than the rest.
This class of microcephalin mutations first emerged approximately 37,000 years ago, while the ASPM variant class was estimated to have arisen about 5,800 years ago.
These time frames are a blink of the eye in evolutionary terms, the researchers point out, noting that the type of Homo sapien existent in the world today emerged only about 200,000 years ago.

With SmokePing you can measure latency, latency distribution and packet loss in your network. SmokePing uses RRDtool to maintain a longterm datastore and to draw pretty graphs giving up to the minute information on the state of each network connection.
SmokePing can also deal with machines who frequently change their IP address by allowing the remote host to call SmokePings attention to its new IP address. In such a setup SmokePing monitors also for how long the remote system could keep its IP address. To ensure that it is not suddenly monitoring the wrong host, SmokePing further tries to fingerprint each of its Dynamic IP targets via SNMP.

[The Register] Verizon takes legal action over phone spam
Verizon Wireless is taking legal action against two US companies for allegedly bombarding its customers with automated telemarketing calls. In two separate lawsuits filed earlier this week, Verizon Wireless is seeking injunctions against Intelligent Alternatives of San Diego, California, and Resort Marketing Trends of Coral Springs, Florida.
